DISTRICT-WIDE SECOND ANNUAL SCIENCE EXTRAVAGANZA SET
School District 95 Educational Foundation to Sponsor Event Focused on Science Saturday, April 24, 2010, 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
LAKE ZURICH, IL. (March 11, 2010) – Celebrate the wonders of science at District 95’s Second Annual Science Extravaganza scheduled for Saturday, April 24, 2010 from 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. This popular science fair and exhibit will be held at Lake Zurich Middle School South, located at 435 W. Cuba Rd. in Lake Zurich.
Young scientists in grades K through 8 will present, demonstrate and fascinate visitors with science projects covering a wide variety of topics. In the past, students have explored everything from alternate forms of energy to the study of coral reefs. Also returning this year is the Lake Zurich High School Robotics Team and Lake Zurich Middle School North winners of the LEGO League Challenge.
The event, which is sponsored by the District 95 Educational Foundation, is meant to be a ‘celebration of science’ and is designed to get ‘kids excited and engaged in science,’ according to Jill Brooks, co-chair of the science fair and principal of Isaac Fox Elementary School.
Denise Schirmann, president of the Foundation, echoes Brooks’ sentiments. “The Foundation is excited to sponsor this event which generates excitement for science and offers our students a forum to show what they know and share with others,” said Schirmann. “Study after study has revealed that as a country, our students lag behind other industrialized nations in science. This fair provides an opportunity for us to help to reverse that trend and get kids excited about science at an early age and keep them engaged.”
Another attraction sure to amaze visitors of all ages is the science magic show “Getting Excited about Science” with Steve Belliveau. The show incorporates humor, music and audience participation and features liquid nitrogen, elephant toothpaste, a human gyroscope, hovercraft and much more.
The event is free and open to the public. For more information contact Jill Brooks 847-540-7020 (jill.brooks@lz95.org) or Brian Agustin 847-540-4618 (brian.agustin@lz95.org).
